When Do You Need Dental Implants?

Dental implants are different than dentures and bridges. They are a permanent means of repairing your smile. Rather than being removable or temporary, implants are a solution that can last decade with the proper care. However, not everyone knows when — exactly — implants are appropriate.
The quick and simple answer is: you can get dental implants whenever you want. There is a mistaken misconception that dental implants are required immediately after the loss or removal of a tooth. Implants, though, can be appropriate both before you lose a tooth or teeth as well as long after they’ve been lost.
Everyone has a different dental situation. What may be right for someone else might be different than what is right for you. If you expect that you will require dental implants in the future, it is often better to get the procedure done immediately rather than waiting until you must have it!
Dental Implants before Tooth Loss
Waiting until you break a tooth or lose one is not always the most appropriate time for a dental implant. As with most things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. That is to say, sometimes it is better to get dental implants before you break or lose a tooth. There are several advantages to getting dental implants prior to a dental issue.
Why Get Implants Prior to a Dental Issue?
One of the best reasons to get dental implants prior to having a dental emergency is to avoid an emergency situation altogether. If you have brittle teeth — especially if you’ve lost or broken teeth before — you can take preventative action in advance by getting implants before you encounter a situation in which you must make a hurried or rushed decision.
Additionally, by getting implants before you have a dental emergency, you are your dentist have time to decide which teeth you want to replace with dental implants. By replacing all of your brittle or damaged teeth, you can save yourself time by doing several — or all — of your teeth at once. By getting all of the teeth you want replaced done at once, you can save yourself from having to go through several procedures.
Again, everyone’s dental condition is different. If you believe you will require implants in the future, however, it is best to talk to a dental care professional sooner rather than later. Right now might be the perfect time to get dental implants! Implant & Comprehensive Dentistry is conveniently located in Champions Gate and Winter Haven, and we also serve residents in Celebration.
