Can Really Bad Teeth Be Fixed?

If you have significant orthodontic or dental issues, you might feel very unhappy about the condition of your teeth. Fortunately, you don’t need to spend decades feeling embarrassed about your missing teeth, crooked smile, or other imperfections. At Implant and Comprehensive Dentistry in Champions Gate, FL, we can use Invisalign, dental implants, and other techniques to improve the quality of your smile.

Can Really Bad Teeth Be Fixed?

If you have missing teeth, very misaligned teeth, or other major orthodontic and dental issues, you might be unwilling to show your teeth when you smile. However, you shouldn’t feel nervous about receiving treatment for these conditions. It’s very common to have significant dental and orthodontic problems, and we can use many different techniques to fix really bad teeth.

At Implant and Comprehensive Dentistry, we can improve the condition of your teeth by providing you with metal braces, veneers, and many other treatments. These techniques can be used to straighten your teeth, brighten your smile, and correct other teeth issues.

Metal Braces

If your teeth are very misaligned or crooked, you might struggle to maintain a good oral hygiene routine. This issue can cause you to develop gum disease, cavities, and other health problems. We may address these problems by providing you with metal braces. Your braces will use brackets and wires to gradually straighten your misaligned teeth, improve your bite problems, and address your other orthodontic issues.

Since eating whole apples, hard candies, and other foods could damage your braces, you will need to make some minor dietary changes during your treatment. In addition, you will need to schedule regular orthodontic appointments while you are wearing your braces. When you visit our office, we will tighten your wires and monitor the shifting position of your teeth. You will usually need to wear your metal braces for up to three years.

Invisalign

Metal braces aren’t the only way to adjust your misaligned teeth and give you a beautiful smile. Invisalign is a gentle treatment that will use a collection of plastic aligners to improve your teeth. If you use this technique to correct your teeth issues, we will use sophisticated technology to create customized aligners for you. You will need to wear your aligners for a significant amount of time each day.

As your teeth improve, you will switch to new sets of plastic aligners. It’s normal to wear a new set of aligners every two weeks or so. In general, you should expect to wear your aligners for about six to 18 months. Since you will be able to take out your aligners when you eat meals, drink, and clean your teeth, you will not be required to make major dietary changes or other lifestyle adjustments during this orthodontic treatment.

Dental Implants

In the past, medical providers had difficulty replacing missing teeth. They used ineffective measures like providing a person with a removable prosthesis or a fixed bridge. Fortunately, these days are over, and today’s dentists can use a number of sophisticated techniques to address missing teeth.

If you have a missing tooth, we may be able to improve your smile by providing you with a dental implant. During your treatment, we will use advanced technology to create three-dimensional images of your jaw and mouth. These images will allow us to carefully place your implant into the best position in your mouth. If you have several missing teeth and wear dentures, we can also use dental implants to hold your dentures in place.

Veneers

Having discolored or chipped teeth can prevent you from feeling confident when you smile. Fortunately, you don’t have to be a model, actor, or celebrity to use veneers to correct this problem. A veneer is a thin coating that we will attach to the front area of your chipped or discolored tooth. Your veneer will brighten your discolored tooth and give you an attractive, healthy appearance.

You will usually need to schedule two visits to our office in Champions Gate when you use veneers to improve your look. During your initial visit, we will shape your teeth and choose an attractive shade for your veneers. During your second appointment, we will use a special liquid to clean your teeth. Next, we will use bonding cement to place your veneers into your mouth.

Which Treatment Is Right for Me?

Before we provide your aligners, implants, or other Invisalign treatments, we will carefully examine your mouth and jaw. Depending on your needs, we may also take x-rays of your mouth. We will use these images to put together a unique treatment plan for you.

For example, if your teeth are very crooked or rotated, we may advise you to use metal braces to fix this issue. In addition, if you are a forgetful person who would struggle to remember to wear your plastic aligners, we may advise you to straighten your teeth with metal braces. In contrast, if you would like to use a very discreet method to enhance your appearance, you might be a good candidate for Invisalign.

What Rules Will I Need To Follow While I Am Improving My Teeth?

We will give you detailed, personalized instructions about how to care for your teeth, adjust your diet, and make other changes to your routine. For example, if you receive metal braces, we will show you how to move around your metal brackets when you floss and brush. We will also go over the fruits, candies, and other foods that you will need to avoid eating while you have your braces.

Since you’ll be able to remove your aligners when you brush, you won’t have to change your oral hygiene routine if you decide to correct your teeth with Invisalign. However, you will need to regularly clean your plastic aligners. We will typically instruct you to clean your aligners with water and toothpaste. If your aligners need deep cleaning, we may ask you to purchase a special cleaning system.

Will I Need To Receive Regular Teeth Cleanings After My Treatment Is Complete?

You will need to continue receiving dental treatments after you have received your dental implants or used Invisalign to straighten your teeth. To preserve your straight, attractive smile and protect your health, you will need to receive regular teeth cleanings at our office in Champions Gate. Receiving a dental cleaning is a comfortable process that will usually take about 60 minutes to complete.

Starting Your Dental Cleaning

We will begin your dental cleaning by assessing the condition of your mouth and jaw. Next, we will carefully eliminate plaque and tartar that has collected on your teeth and gum line. If you haven’t received a dental cleaning in a long time, this portion of your cleaning may last for a longer period of time.

Polishing and Flossing Your Teeth

During the next part of your cleaning, we will floss and use a specialized toothbrush to clean your teeth. Under certain circumstances, we may give you a fluoride treatment at this point. Receiving a fluoride treatment is a good way to decrease the chance that bacteria and tartar will collect on your teeth.

How Often Will I Need To Receive a Dental Cleaning?

The frequency of your dental cleanings will depend on your health and the condition of your teeth. On average, we will instruct you to get your teeth cleaned once every year.

However, you may need to receive more frequent cleanings if you have cavities, gum issues, or other health conditions. For example, we may advise you to get a cleaning once every six months if you have diabetes or heart disease. In addition, you might need to receive more frequent cleanings if you smoke cigarettes, wear dentures, or have metal braces.

Can I Use Teeth Whitening Techniques To Enhance the Appearance of My Smile?

Once you have straightened your teeth and received your implants, you might decide to use teeth whitening techniques to enhance the appearance of your smile. If you regularly drink red wine, coffee, or tea, your teeth may look stained or dull. Fortunately, we can use efficient techniques to quickly brighten your smile. We will start your professional treatment by making personalized trays that will fit comfortably over your teeth.

You will use these trays to put a special solution on your teeth. If your teeth have minor stains, we may advise you to wear your customized trays twice every day. Each of these sessions will take 30 minutes to complete. If you are interested in achieving more significant changes in your teeth, you might need to wear your trays for longer periods of time.
