Learn About Dental Implants in Winter Haven

Dental implants have become a very popular method for replacing teeth. This method can be used to replace just one tooth or multiple teeth. In some cases, they can even replace all of your teeth. Here are some things you need to know about getting dental implants in Winter Haven. Why Tooth Replacement Is Important

When you have a missing tooth or teeth, it can result in a number of oral health problems. Besides often being noticeable and potentially embarrassing, while also making it harder to smile freely, a gap between your teeth can also lead to shifting of your teeth, bone deterioration, a change in the shape of your jawbone, the recession of your gums, and potentially gum disease.

How Implants Work

A dental implant can prevent the above issues simply by filling in space in your gums. The implant is made of titanium, and it is surgically placed into the socket where the tooth was. As it heals, the bone and gums attach to it, which anchors it into place. Once the healing is completed, which may take up to 12 weeks, a small metal piece called an abutment is placed on top of the implant. The new tooth, a crown, will be attached to it.

Getting the Right Tooth

Our dentist can get an impression of all of your teeth, and a tooth can then be designed to fit in with the rest of your teeth. This makes sure that the new tooth does not change your bite or cause other issues in the future.

The Dental Crown

The crown, or visible part of your tooth, is typically designed to match the color of your other teeth. This ensures that it not only looks like your other teeth, but it can also feel and function like your other teeth.

Types of Implants

One type of implant is the permanent implant, which was previously described and is placed into the bone socket. The other kind consists of a metal frame that is fitted on top of the jawbone under the gums. It also has posts which will rest outside of the gums. The crowns are attached to the posts in the same way. When an implant is used to replace several teeth, a choice can be made between receiving a permanent situation, or a removable one. As far as maintenance is concerned, there is not much difference. Both options can be brushed and flossed just like natural teeth.

Benefits of Implants

A major benefit of dental implants is that they do not move when you are talking or eating compared to dentures. This is designed to give you greater confidence and comfort. Another benefit is that there are no messy adhesives to apply, and you do not need to worry about them coming loose.
