Invisalign: How Does It Really Work?

The use of Invisalign® to straighten teeth has become a big deal in dentistry because of how convenient it is. There was a time when metal braces were the only option for treating misaligned teeth. And as much as metal braces are highly effective in teeth and jaw realignment, there are people who are not comfortable with the visual aspect of it and would like to keep their dental undertakings private. The experts at Implant and Comprehensive Dentistry in Champions Gate and Celebration, Florida understand that many people are not as much in the know about dental aligners as they are about braces.
Does It Work Better Than Braces?
People who are not familiar with Invisalign® usually wonder whether aligners perform better than braces. The answer to that is, neither is better than the other considering they work differently. Both solutions are arrived at by our dentist who will analyze your case and figure out which treatment is suitable.
Now that we have seen that there’s no competition between the two treatment options, let’s take a look at how Invisalign® works.
The Treatment Process
When you visit dentists or orthodontists with special Invisalign® training, they will be able to determine if the treatment is right for you during your first consultation. They will assess your case and answer any questions you might have.
Our doctor will then come up with a precise treatment plan, and create digital 3D scan images of your teeth making movements throughout the duration of the treatment. Through these images, you can see exactly how your teeth will look like after the treatment. The 3D measurements are then used to print custom aligners that perfectly fit your teeth.
Invisalign® aligners are made of nonirritant clear plastic that is difficult to notice unless someone is up close and paying attention. The aligners are worn 22 hours a day, are comfortable and removable whenever you want to eat or clean your teeth, which means that they do not interfere with your lifestyle.
Every tray set has a duration of two weeks at the end of which you will be required to replace them with a new set of straighter impressions. The process goes on like that until your teeth are moved into their final spot.
Treatment with Invisalign® usually last for about 12 months, however, each case is unique and the timeline may depend on the severity of each individual case. Our doctor will communicate with you the details of your treatment as he maps out your treatment plan. For more information about Invisalign® or any of our services, contact our office today!
