How to Prevent Tooth Stains

For many people, having white teeth is a big part of feeling confident about their appearance. When you have white teeth, you’ll be more comfortable smiling and being expressive. Teeth stains are very common, but they can make it difficult to achieve the beautiful white look that many people crave. The expert team at Implant and Comprehensive Dentistry in Champions Gate, FL helps their clients reduce and prevent staining. With a little awareness and good dental hygiene, you can prevent tooth stains and keep your teeth looking pearly white – here’s how.
Use a Straw When You Drink
Many tooth stains come from drinking things like red wine, tea, or coffee. It may feel a little silly, but sipping these drinks through a straw can help prevent them from staining your teeth. This is particularly important if you’ve recently undergone a whitening procedure.
Brush after Every Meal
When food stays in your teeth for long periods of time, it’s more likely to cause staining. You can prevent this by brushing after every meal. Keep a travel size toothbrush and toothpaste in your bag so you can brush your teeth when you are out and about as well. If you don’t get a chance to brush, at least rinse your mouth out after eating – this can get rid of the majority of food particles that might cause plaque.
Look for Antibacterial Mouthwash
Using any type of mouthwash is better for keeping your teeth white than not using it at all. However, antibacterial mouthwash is going to be the most effective. This is because it kills the germs that could linger in your mouth and lead to tooth stains. Many mouthwash products also have a slight whitening effect as well. The results won’t be drastic, but they can help prevent your teeth from looking too stained.
Use an Electric Toothbrush
An electric toothbrush won’t automatically make your teeth look whiter, but it probably will help you brush more effectively. Electric toothbrushes are easier and more comfortable to use than manual ones, and many people prefer the deep clean they feel when they use them. Many electric toothbrushes also have timers to encourage you to brush for a substantial period of time.
The better you maintain your dental hygiene, the less likely you are to experience tooth stains. However, if you already have stains you’d like to get rid of, there are effective professional solutions available.
