A Great Alternative to Braces: Invisalign

Does Invisalign Work?, If you have been looking for an alternative to braces and Invisalign® may be an option. At Implant and Comprehensive Dentistry, we find many people have questions about the effectiveness and affordability of Invisalign®, as well as how the system differs from braces.

How Does Invisalign Work & Differ From Braces?

Both braces and Invisalign® are effective ways to straighten teeth. However, there are key differences. The main difference people notice comes down to aesthetics. Braces have metal brackets that are glued to the enamel of your teeth and threaded with wire. While you can get them in colors or even made to closely match the enamel of your teeth, they are very noticeable. In contrast, Invisalign® is designed to be stealthy. The method uses aligner trays that are both smooth and comfortable. Your teeth are gently moved into alignment as the BPA-free trays are worn over them. The trays are reconfigured as your teeth shift into position.

Strengths of Invisalign®

Both techniques have their strengths and weaknesses. Invisalign®’s biggest strength is that the aligners are virtually invisible. The aligners can also be removed for up to two hours a day while braces can never be removed during treatment. This method is a great alternative to braces.

Common concerns with braces revolve around the units themselves. Invisalign® has none of those issues. There are no wires to cause discomfort. They do not present any problems when eating. Food does not get caught in them because it can be removed.

Similarities to Braces

While the aligner trays have to be changed every two weeks, actual dental visits are between four and six weeks apart. This is similar to braces, where dental visits are spaced about a month apart. Post-straitening, with both braces and Invisalign®, a positioner or retainer will need to be worn at night to prevent shifting of your teeth back into their original position.

Am I a Good Candidate?

If you do not have complex issues regarding the positioning of your teeth, you are likely a good candidate for Invisalign®. However, you must have a level of self-discipline because the units are removable. You will also have to be sure to brush after eating or drinking anything other than water, or you could suffer from staining.

The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for this alternative to braces is to be assessed by one of our experts at Implant and Comprehensive Dentistry, located in Winter Haven and the Celebration/Champions Gate area. Contact us today to book an appointment and get started!
